These digital platforms have revolutionized communication, interaction, and information consumption due to their immediacy and the democratization of information access. Furthermore, the potential for broad exposure empowers users to exercise their freedom of expression.

Through social platforms, individuals promptly share ideas, opinions, thoughts, and experiences, transcending physical barriers. The concept of virality, as described by Tony D. Sampson in “Virality: Contagion Theory in the Age of Networks” (2012), plays a crucial role. It refers to how thoughts, information, and trends disseminate within human populations.

The democratization of communication fosters diverse viewpoints, enriching subjectivities and offering a platform for those who were previously unheard. This nurtures communities with shared interests and amplifies the impact of activism and social awareness campaigns.

Moreover, social platforms hold economic value for individuals, companies, and organizations. Their broad reach combines with communicative efficacy, allowing precise targeting of audiences for efficient promotion and sale of products and services.

Lastly, the appeal of social platforms as entertainment hubs, driven by multimedia content and interactive engagement, contributes significantly to their popularity.

Negative Consequences and Disadvantages of Social Networks

  5. TikTok – Having 1.1 billion monthly users, TikTok’s short-form videos have gained immense popularity.

  1. Live Broadcasting and Authentic Interaction – Live streaming platforms like Facebook Live and Instagram Live foster real-time engagement, enhancing user experiences.
